Re: Carborator rebuild questions
I also had some major carb problems years ago and traced the problem to a missing plug on one of the carbs. I punched a small plug from an aluminum sheet and affixed it to the carb with JB weld. Problem solved and no more problems.

Re: Spare Tire Mount
I remembered the name of the canvas one I mentioned. Pakkratt. Some photos can be found HERE: http://www.pakkratt.com but no longer available. There blurb lists the ability to wrap a snatch strap around the tire under the cover, then store some supplies inside.

Re: Spare Tire Mount
I've also been interested in something like this. Years ago, someone made a canvas-like tire cover which had a zipper to gain access to the inside and a small lock. These only came in Jeep-like sizes, so I never ordered one, but it was simple and at much less $$$ than the one illustrated. I've since...

Re: hooks
Yes, a common problem. I did 2 things: 1. sourced exact replacement brass hooks, and 2. affixed 3M heavy duty double-sided silicone tape between hook and body as a barrier. After 3 years no problems, and my Pinze does not live in a garage.

Re: Oil Pan Skid Plate?
I have one and I'll see if I can grab a few photos for you. I purchased it from the fabricator that used to make tanks and other items for cold war. He stopped making them for cold war over a dispute; not being paid, and for awhile advertised his parts independently before giving up for lack of enou...

Re: Pinz will turn over but won't start
Basic auto shop 101: engines need three systems to run. Mechanical, fuel and electrical. Mechanical: any loose wires, loose distributor, linkage, carb leaking etc, timing Fuel: solenoids working, fuel delivery to carbs, leaks? Electrical: spark at plugs Go through each system at a time, first lookin...

Re: sound deadening ideas
I have a 712M. I attached the rubber sheeting on the flat panels under the seats and the angled panels towards the floor. I also attached a piece under the aluminum floorboard, but only berliner under the floorboards so that they could be flushed out with a hose. The berliner/rubber sheeting/marine ...

Re: sound deadening ideas
Yes, a Pinz really is a tin can, but can be tamed quite a bit. I first rolled truck bed liner beneath the floor boards, then glued 1" foam beneath the aluminum boards. There always seems to be a lot of dirt, leaves etc. that collect there so I didn't want anything to prevent me from just hosing...

Re: A proper car audio system
Look in fleabay for used Vanner equalizers. Big tour busses run these, and a 60-100 amp slightly used can run 90-200. I run a 100 amp, almost new, that keeps my batteries at even charge and only cost me 99.99. I run one in my 712 and another in my trailer.

Berger, Purchase an inexpensive digital thermometer with a lazer sight (like from Harbour Freight here in the states). Its an invaluable tool as has been suggested in several boards. After driving, check the temp of each hub. If there is a big imbalance, the highest temp may be adjusted too tight or...

Re: Brown fuzzy air-tunnel insulation
Dan, I've tried just about every special rust coating, and had poor luck with por 15. It requires special prep products which I carefully used, and still had the peeling you mentioned. In addition, it requires a special top coating for regular paint to stick to. I've had much better luck with Rust B...
