Sudden battery death
The batteries in my Pinz have been troopers for the last 2 years. The truck sat for about 6 months while I was rebuilding the transmission and after a day on trickle charge started right up. I didn't bother to check before I charged, so I don't know if it needed it. At the beginning of the month the...

Re: Swiss Army needs new G's
Does this mean that there will be another massive surplus sell-off of Pinzgauers? Unfortunately not... so the new Gs entering service should just mean more older Gs being sold. About "massive", in our post-cold war world, nothing will be sold in numbers matching what we had with the Pinz,...

Re: Transmission Removal
There is a distinct possibility that the complete and utter lack of fluid contributed in some way to the premature failure of rotating parts inside my transmission.
But if that's the case I'd never admit it.

Re: Transmission Removal
Back on the road!
Drove it from the old house in Bremerton to the new one in Everett; for those familiar with Western Washington. It's been 6 months, and it was used to haul a whole bunch of stuff to the new house so It's cleaning time and then probably a cruise or two.

Re: Transmission Removal
Except for the gears, these are the remaining culprits that need to be replaced, a needle bearing, a syncro hub and syncro and a couple of washers.

Re: Transmission Removal
I've finally got the fixed shaft complete except for the bearings, and the syncro shaft is all apart waiting on some new parts. A thrust washer, needle bearing and a syncro hub need replacing.
I do have a picture of it exploded on a work bench, I'll try to get it up in the next week or so.

Re: 710M and 712M price when new?
1978 4-Wheeler stated that the units sold to civilians (710K) would be sold between 25-30K In todays dollars that is around 107,000 I would imagine that the military variants were somewhat higher depending on 712/Rapier/Ambulance options, I'd expect the high end ones topping out between 150-200K in ...

Re: Transmission Removal
Thanks for the heads up. I ended up trading an old Subaru for a pistol, and while I was chatting with my friend we started chatting about the pinz and the transmission, long story short, I'm borrowing his press. 3rd and 4th dropped right on no sweat. I had to press on 5th, but it pretty much slid on...

Re: Transmission Removal
I'm pretty much at the point where I can put it back together, I've been playing Coast Guard the last 5 months and havn't had the chance to mess with it too much. Will the reccomended heat level, around 100 degrees C be enough for the gear to "drop" in, or will I still need a press? Would ...

Re: Transmission Removal
Update! It's both good and bad news. The good news is that I was correct in my assessment of the problem. The bad news is that I was correct in my assessment of the problem. 4th gear on the input is missing 2 teeth, the other gear doesn't look wonderful either, and I can only assume they are a match...

No need to import one from Europe....Pinzgauer Canada has the military ones.... ;) Their website, however, looks as if it was done in 1998, and was only sporadically updated by an 8th grader for a homework project. Seriously though, if you're a store front shouldn't you have inventory or prices, or...

There was litterally no one. Not even the classic crowd, no worries, though, we're only five minutes away. Next time you all has better show up though!
