Re: connections under desk

Your Pinzgauer has been an austrian Radio truck. Those electrical installations are all factory installations on the Trucks that were factory refurbished between 1995 and 1999. Your Pinzgauer is missing some parts though. The place under the desk was meant for another battery box (the same as is mou...

Re: anyone know what happened to this pinz

This particular Pinzgauer is one of the few that were reimported to Europe from Oman. I know the actual owner of this vehicle. The vehicle was rebuild completely as far as I know. It is still a camper from the inside, but most parts on the outside of the vehicle like the Jerry can holders the Roof r...

Re: Power steering

I went the TD way on a some of my Pinzgauers. These Pictures show the power steering setup of my my race 712M. Here you can see a grey arm sticking out of the front frame section. This is where the hydraulic ram is attached to. http://up.picr.de/9743655ijv.jpg And here you can see the steering valve...

Re: Unknown part

The reason why you can not find it on every Pinzgauer is because the early Pinzgauers didn't have that part. Only later ones and the ones that had their axle boots changed or diffs overhauled have it. You can see it as an improved version. That is why if you buy a repair kit from Steyr this little m...

Re: rare doorless hard top 710 (710MS?) on youtube

Actually the 710MS or Amb-Y is not that rare in Europe as a very large part of the Bosnian and Slovenian Pinzgauers are of this type. The hardtop itself is exactly the same as any other 710K top. Even the door cutout is there. It is just closed with a sheetmetal panel. The platform itself is just li...

Re: Shifter ???'s

Yes the shift rod itself can crack and break. Just for clarity I mean the 4 feet long Rod that connects the Shifter and the Transmission.
But a cracked shift rod shouldn't be the reason not to buy a Pinzgauer as it is not too complicated to weld it.

Re: Shifter ???'s

All austrian army Pinzgauers that were factory refurbished have the shifter with the collar.

Besides the dogbone and the bushings another problem is the shift linkage rod that tends to develop cracks in the first two bends.

Re: water fording and snorkel

@bernhard: just be careful with this type of hose. If it rubs anywhere it won't take too long to fail. And believe me it does rub at least on the air filter housing or on the Platform itself. I did it the same way you did. The problem is that you will not find out it failed till you are in deep wate...

Re: Speed upgrades?

As Dave is busy right now I might be able to answer Michaels question as I own two 716M along with some stock and modified Gas Pinzgauers. On Highways I drive my Diesels at about 75 mph which I consider good cruising speed for the Diesel. At this speed they feel absolutely safe to drive. The 716 fee...

You do great work there.

Inline six FTW. I drive one too, a gas powered one though.

Actually I know of two conversions that use a BMW straight six floating around somewhere in Europe. One 712M is in Austria. Or should I say was in Austria as it was parted out after a short life. I don't know the reason why though. And there is another heavily modified 712K in italy that pops up eve...

Me too, I have the same setup on my trophy truck (and on my TDs). They have some massive stopping power no matter if they are wet, muddy or dry. And one more thing, they work if you have to backup a hill too. Btw. I had no luck to find the Pictures of the Truck. I just found some short video sequenc...

The only vehicle that has the same bolt pattern as the Pinzgauer that I know of is the Ford Transit FT300. The only benefit of those wheels is that they are designed for tubeless use. Other then that there are some custom wheels on the market that fit the Pinz. I think the limit is a narrow 35"...

If I remember correctly the truck had disk brakes, winches and a roll cage. (and some other minor changes) One thing I am not sure about is if it had power steering. But it could be Horst Mallner's race truck that I remember which is very nice too. Think of a turbocharged engine with water injection...
