Re: Disc brake conversion

We have a similar law in the UK. The vehicle as presented in the photo there would (should!) fail the MOT (annual vehicle test). Widening the stance would require fenders/mud guards to cover the protruding wheel. In the UK this could be as simple as plastic mouldings.

Re: Disc brake conversion

Thank you all for your thoughts and comments. We'll investigate a little more and post back here if we decide to go further.

On that note: Is there anyone with a 710/712 around Berkshire/UK would would be interested in helping us develop a kit?

Re: Disc brake conversion

One of my frustrations with my 710M was the need to clean out the drums every time you forded through water with less than 99% purity. I found that dirty water (or wet mud, if you want to call it that) wrote off brake pads faster than a Peugeot could break down. It was a driving force in my decision...

Disc brake conversion

Been a few years since I sold my 710M, was just talking to a friend about the drum brake limitations in the 710/712 Pinzgauers and he said that the design and manufacture of a disc brake conversion kit (for self installation) wouldn't be that complex. What level of interest would people have in a co...

Re: Petition to change imported vehicle guidlines!

I'm not sure I see the issue here. While I agree that it'd make things a lot easier for Expedition Imports, other vehicle import companies or individuals importing vehicles to make these changes I don't think I agree with the premise of the petition. Additionally I see two separate issues in the pet...

Re: Worlds first

The Pinzgauer also has the ability to provide charging power to the batteries at a lower rpm than most vehicles. This is a key piece of information for a vehicle in the Pinz's role. Few vehicles have a functional charging circuit at idle, my Pinz used to charge quite happily at idle. The only other...

Re: Steering support loose

I haven't looked at this bit but I found with the handbrake housing a ring spanner was the only tool I could get onto certain nuts.

Re: Rental Trailer for a 712

I can't comment on US law but in the UK it's illegal to exceed the trailer's rated limit as documented on the plate attached to the trailer. Additionally we have vehicle limits and limits depending on the driver's licence (license, for the merry cans... :)).

Re: Quick Wiring Question: Radio Box behind seat

It's direct to the battery, and the wire is pretty heavy gauge. It's nowhere near enough cross section for a winch but you're driven mostly by how much you value your battery voltage. I think I recall seeing somewhere that the alternator is good for 55A at the factory in ideal conditions. If you ass...

Re: Quick Wiring Question: Radio Box behind seat

You need to solder the wires into the indentations on the connector. You'll need a decent soldering iron, too, since there's a lot of metal to heat up in large gauge wiring. I can't remember which way round the positive/negative are, a voltmeter will tell you. One pin is definitely ground, the other...

Can you get a hand-winch/come-along on the front tow hitch and ease it up that way?

Get your voltmeter out and trace it back to the isolation switch. Figure out at which point it doesn't work any more...
