Re: Dangers of Bed Liner Material

Chris... Second Skid Spectrum is exactly what I used. I'll give you an update now; but I plan on posting a full update with photos in a bit... I'm close. So, I've been doing this project at night and on weekends. It's taken a while but it is coming along great. After stripping the bedliner and all p...

Re: Dangers of Bed Liner Material

As an update for anyone interested, I found some rust under the passenger seat, at the bend where your legs would bend, in the foot well area, around the heater hose floor connection, and in the air tunnel. None of it was bad; but it exists nonetheless and will be totally repaired and treated. I'll ...

Re: Doghouse Renovation

Thanks for the input. I will trust you guys on that point. I guess another solution would be to do something up top and have it upholstered. I may check on that route. I am confident that in addition to the metal rattling, there is a ton of engine noise coming up from under the dog house. As things ...

Re: Heater ground connection

I can't tell from the pics, is this the heater behind the seat or the blower motor in the front passenger cab in the footwell?

Doghouse Renovation

I am in the process of re-painting the interior cab of my 710M. I am also adding some noise reduction materials to it as Vince wrote about in this section. I was preparing to put some anti-vibration material on the doghouse and realized it has a coating of some foam like material on the underside of...

Dangers of Bed Liner Material

I have a 1975 710M. My truck came from Arizona where the weather is generally nice and dry. The truck is currently in South Louisiana where it rains every day in the summer and during hunting season we are driving through wet areas to get to where we need to be. The person who had the truck before m...

Re: Loose mirrors

I know this post was a while ago; but did you have any luck? I have the same issue. In the middle of a steep uphill climb on a very narrow path I encountered a small tree down and had to power over/through it. Worked great; but lost my mirror. Same story, the bracket and rod seem fine; but the mirro...

Re: New Member trying to get 3 712's running better

Ed... one other thing. The flywheel has an orange v or mark at TDC. So, if you're trying to confirm that the timing is right look for the orange mark. You can turn it with a large socket. If memory is correct, which generally it fails me, it's a 25mm socket. Good luck.

Re: New Member trying to get 3 712's running better

From your post there are a lot of pieces of information the guys may need to help you diagnose your trouble. I am not the engine expert like some of these guys. But, I have had a couple of issues I've run down with similar symptoms. I'll just comment on the fuel filter as this could easily be your p...

Re: Fuel Pump Question

Thanks Jimm. I may tackle that project tonight. It seems simple enough. The weather where we are right now is perfect Pinz weather and I hate seeing her stuck in the garage. :D

Re: Fuel Pump Question

Hey guys, thanks for the input. I do not see any red flakes in the filter. I did find a rock in the gas tank a while back; but the tank seems clear now.(How it got there I have NO idea!) I have changed out all of the fuel lines from the tank to the carbs. The one from the tank to the pump did seem a...

Fuel Pump Question

I have been trying to track down an engine performance issue and without getting into too much detail, my question is this... when the engine is running should the fuel filter be full of fuel? I have a clear filter so you can see into it. Both at idle and when you press on the accelerator, the gas m...

Re: Loss of power and backfire: help!

"Before you muck around too much with your carbs if you haven't already done so you need to check your valve clearances, overly tight clearances will definitely cause your symptoms and they need to be done routinely on air cooled engines IMO. You did say that your compression and leak down test...

Re: Loss of power and backfire: help!

Simon Happy Hollidays to you as well. You ask some good questions, that I neglected to answer. I did check the low idle fuel solenoids and they all seem to be operational. I get a click out of them when plugging them in. As for synching the carbs... yes I did do that. But, given what I've read, incl...

Re: Loss of power and backfire: help!

Thanks guys. I will check the fuel coming into the carbs tonight when I get home. I figured since they were new they would come set up properly from the factory. I really thought this would turn out to be a grounding problem. But it should be ground perfectly now and I'm still having the issue. It h...
