To all non-metric Pinz users:

You have two crossbars on your rear doors, holding the spare wheel.
These bars are mounted to the door with the screws you need. Just remove the bottom bar, and you are sorted.
No more search for the correct size or thread ...

just one remark to your plans:

if you permanently block access to the the towing mouth with the winch you should think about another fixed point you can hook on to.

Lads The reason for that device lies within our legislation: Anything you modify on a vehicle that is registered for traffic on public roads has to be TÜV approved. Have you checked the rear side of the fuel gauge ?
That piece on the wires looks like the connector part broken off.

Jbird The shaft will spin at the same speed irrelevant if in 2wd mode or 4wd mode I suggest you make yourself aware what happens when you engage 4wd. The aforementioned canvas door tops were afaik only used at the Austrian army, as standard for M-models
SAN, FLA, FAL and all K models had the sliding window door tops.

just a word of caution

you see all the shiny new wiring for positive and ground...

make sure the connection between both 12 v batteries is upgraded to the same spec !

try to touch a well connected ground point with that wire to the sender.
if your gauge starts flickering, you identified the right cable ...
