Re: '76' 712M in AZ
I think maybe what he's trying to say is that it's sad to think that someone would buy a vehicle that the group loves solely out of consideration for the resale value. Of course it's great that vehicles maintain resale value, and keep in business those who earn a living buying low and selling high -...

Re: Hafi Heavy Cleaning - lots of photos
While you have your steering box out, you should check the condition of the tube that carries the horn wire up to the steering wheel button. It's welded onto the bottom plate on the gearbox. My horn wire "conduit" rusted out and is now leaking steering gearbox oil out onto the floor... My ...

Re: Wheel Flange/Hub Gear Casing - help needed
It definitely helps to have multiple sets of wrenches/spanners so as to have extras for the purpose of modification. My best example was cutting the open end off an 11mm one to be able to get at the top nut of the fuel pump. Put the cut bit on the nut, and putting a suitably sized closed-end wrench ...

Re: Rear backing plate damage...
Aahh. I was wondering if maybe there was some kind of lesson there about certain rims or tires that dont fit well.
Must have been scary when it happened.

Re: G'day, new here, where do you think my oil is leaking?
Quick and possibly stupid question: Do all Haflingers have CV joint boots? Mine didn't have them when I got it and I thought it was strange, but nothing about these machines is quite normal, so I never looked into that.

Re: Front portal leak
Mine is doing the same thing right after I replaced all the relevant seals... That one being discussed is quite pricey, as far as seals go. While you are at it, you might as well re-grease the CV joint. I couldn't find a source for speedi-sleeves that was significantly cheaper than a new mud deflect...

Fitting an oil pressure gauge
I thought I would post my solution to fitting the oil pressure sender and gauge. IMG_01761.jpg I used a 100 PSI VDO gauge and sender unit, and installed it by screwing an M10-1/8NPT adapter into the engine where the oil pressure sender goes, then a grease gun hose, the longest I could find (this was...

Question about ignition wires
Does it make a difference as to what kind of ignition wires to use for the plugs and coil to distributor? I ask this because my original wires and the replacements I got from HaflingerTechnik have next to zero resistance, while modern ignition wires have comparatively high resistance. When I ran wit...
