Re: Reverse-mount 12V alternator

So I've gotten a ton of inquiries about this bracket. First off, I had no issues with it at all. Truck doesn't seem to notice at all, starts and drives the same. I used a marine battery box from Summit to mount a 12V battery and kept the ground common to the 24V system. I'm not saying this is how it...

Re: Reverse-mount 12V alternator

Personally, probably not going to sell it. I have a ton of other projects going on right now and I'm not sure I could offer the support a product deserves. That being said, I will likely license the product to be supported by another Pinz owner. Stay tuned for that. That should allow me enough time ...

Re: Reverse-mount 12V alternator

Got it all bolted up and running! Getting the right belt size was a pain, but only because I suck at guessing the right size... Super fun project and I'm excited to add the remainder of the 12V system! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190821/6b6ab4e874be53cafd35b18ebda510b2.jpg https://uploads.tap...

Re: Reverse-mount 12V alternator

I still deal with flame cut stuff occasionally when we have really thick/large parts. Even then, the cut quality is so nice! Flame cutting has come a long way! To your note, I plan to run a ground from the back of the alternator to either body or engine. I thought about masking contact areas, but fi...

Re: Reverse-mount 12V alternator

The bracket is back from manufacturing! https://i.imgur.com/3xlZkzE.jpg Super pleased with the results, just need to weld it up and send it for powdercoating. I decided to run a quick BOM to see how my cost looked versus the +$1000 version from Sweden and I think I'm doing pretty good! Just need to ...

Re: Reverse-mount 12V alternator

So how do you plan to eliminate any voltage ghosting through the alternator housing? Will you be isolating the mount to run a direct ground and power to an auxiliary battery? Or will you have a disconnect switch on the power supply to the existing battery jumper cable? The 12v and 24v systems will ...

Re: Reverse-mount 12V alternator

First revision looks on the money! I'm going to make one tiny adjustment and then hit go on the metal versions! Going to throw together a bill of materials here soon to get a cost estimate. I'm figuring I'm well under the $1k+ being asked in Sweden... https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190725/013f78...

Re: Reverse-mount 12V alternator

Sorry for the slight delay, I got a little preoccupied helping a friend install a 3" lift... for his Miata. Really awesome project!! https://i.imgur.com/NdcPc0g.jpg I had a bunch of trouble getting the idler how I wanted it and everything and keeping cost down, but I finally got it worked out a...

Re: Reverse-mount 12V alternator

Lots of post here about trying to run both 24v and 12v and issue with common ground I believe. Others here with more knowledge than I should chime in! Dan I consulted with an electrical engineer that I work with who has built a few electric motors. He said you can try and keep the grounds split, bu...

Re: Reverse-mount 12V alternator

Not even close to an engineer here, but how does this tax the already meager HP of the motor? I think that has been a concern in past discussions. There's a couple of ways to figure that out and there are a few discussions on which is best online. From what I can find, the range is somewhere betwee...

Yeah exactly! Whatever you can find in a 10SI case, it shall bolt up.

Re: Reverse-mount 12V alternator

I can understand if you have a lot of 12v items in the truck but when it comes to winches, 24v ones are available from most brands and work better than a 12v winch as well. That was actually plan A, but I found the cost of 24v winches was about equal to doing this project and buying a 12v winch. No...

VinceAtReal4x4s wrote:Very nice work. Can you mention why you are adding this to the Pinz?
Yeah! I just wanted a dedicated 12v system for running a winch and whatever else. I could run a converter but I feel like this is a little more robust and provides a lot more amperage.

Re: Reverse-mount 12V alternator

So the first model of the bracket came in today. For hand measurements, it came out awesome. Basic fit was solid. I need to adjust the belt alignment and drop the alt a little to better clear the doghouse. That will affect belt engagement so I will likely add an idler. I have a lot of confidence thi...

Re: Reverse-mount 12V alternator

tgreening wrote:Is this adding a 12v alt to the system, or replacing the 24v?
The original intent was to add a 12V alternator, but you can get a 24V alternator in a 10SI housing, so either could be done.
