Blower Motor Alternative Found
My blower motor failed recently and finding information on suitable replacements has been a challenge. This is what I did today to fix it. The project was under $100, fairly simple, and done in a few hours. Scouring the Red Dot catalog lead me to this motor. It was as close as I could find to a fit ...

Re: Efi build, the slow way.
Update: A little more tuning to stop fouling plugs and manage IAC behavior but after that I'm happy to report everything works as intended. Idle, starting, acceleration and all seem to work consistently. Anybody want a set of carbs?

Re: VW Jetronic mechanical fuel injection swap
Our weather went cold this week! Good thing I was able to get it together and tuned just in time for 20 degrees, snow, and ice. My wife and I spent close to 5 hours out and about yesterday delivering gifts without incident. There are some small parts to finish still like a proper IAC mounting and cr...

Re: VW Jetronic mechanical fuel injection swap
IT RUNS! I started out last weekend determined to get this thing running. There were a few bugs to work out initially but in a surprisingly short amount of time I had the harness made and all the plumbing parts installed. I primed the fuel sump, turned on the key, hit the starter button, and wouldn'...

Re: VW Jetronic mechanical fuel injection swap
I'm back on it. Took a break when work picked up again. I quickly realized that although the mechanical system was awesome in so many ways that I wasn't ready to cut up the intakes and run fuel lines under the heat shroud and stopped working on this route. I learned a lot in the process so that's a ...

Re: VW Jetronic mechanical fuel injection swap
Project Update I picked up a pressure test kit, fuel distributor rebuild kit, and some more books.Went through everything fixing a few issues along the way. Today I had some time to check and balance the injectors and test the rest of the system. Everything is within range and it runs great as long ...

Re: VW Jetronic mechanical fuel injection swap
I was trying to solve a big flat spot right off idle the other day. It runs great besides acting like a carb without an accelerator pump. I was able to drive it around my yard even but its not steet ready yet. The fuel pressure test results were close to perfect and I was starting to doubt the proje...

Re: VW Jetronic mechanical fuel injection swap
I got the fuel system sorted today. There are some threaded mounts on the trans that I was able to use to hold the pump and accumulator bracket. It's low enough to keep the pump happy and higher than the undercarriage so I call it a win. The thread pitch on them looks to be different than what I exp...

Re: VW Jetronic mechanical fuel injection swap
Thank you guys for your kind words. I stared this thing for what seems like days for a location to mount this big ass filter, pump, and accumulator. The filter fits by the intake and the rest has a home you will see in a couple days! I have some hose ferrules and a crimper the way so I can hopefully...

Re: VW Jetronic mechanical fuel injection swap
I made some changes to the airbox bracket for small allignment fixes and redesigned it as a single piece for easier reproduction. Made a flange for the cold start injector and brazed into the best location I could find. Aux air valve was going to be ported at the throttle body flange but after a tes...

Re: VW Jetronic mechanical fuel injection swap
As I go I’m taking notes and saving templates and artwork so yes. I can recreate most of this if it is successful. Some of the parts are a bit hard to find as they are from late 70’s cars but hard to find parts shouldn’t scare a Pinz owner! New injectors will be here soon and I’m hoping to get the f...

Re: VW Jetronic mechanical fuel injection swap
I was able to score a CNC plasma table a few weekends ago in trade, so yay! Not currently having income and ultra long shipping times is proving to make me think harder about how I go about this for sure! Stupid Covid. This week I made some progress on bracketry. I ordered some longer studs and made...

Re: VW Jetronic mechanical fuel injection swap
During the initial run test I discovered two very important issues. Too long of an assembly to waste space with a pretty TB adapter if it is to fit under the engine cover and even if it did fit, that rubber boot is hilariously too weak under full vac! So next idea.. build an ultra short one from ste...

Re: VW Jetronic mechanical fuel injection swap
So far so good.Early this week I bench tested the system, cleaned the injectors, made a mason jar fuel tank, mounted up the manifolds and attached the TB with a plastic printed adapter to the oem accordion boot. It's not pretty or permanent yet in any way. Today I recived the injector inserts in the...
