Re: Paint

I don't know why you can't read my mind? :) I try not to read scary stuff late at night. Playing around with the Gillespie colors I found their 24087 to be too brown. The 23070 WWII semi-gloss olive drab looked darn close to the SAV color. I may go with 24052 Marine Corps forest green on the ...

Thanks for the info Bryan, but for now I am looking at rattle can paint. The paint from SAV is made in Germany and probably is the bundeswehr RAL6014. The color of 24087 changed with the different federal standards. 595A-24087 is not the same as the current 595B-24087. Actually, the old 24087 is the...

OK, after a light second coat on my test spots I'll have to say that this paint is almost an exact match to the unfaded areas on my Pinzgauer. I am wondering if this is military color 24087 - looks close.

I picked up a couple cans from SAV. Tested it on a few spots on my 712 today. The color is a good "average" between the shades on my truck. Of course it is much darker than the faded paint. Compared to the unfaded paint (under plates, decals) it was a little lighter and a little more olive...

Re: Jersey?

Todd, I just drove a K from Phoenix to my place. It was about this time last year you took off I think. My trip was 1600 miles and I was TIRED. I drove by your place today on the way to the court house. Hoped to get a peek of your 710K but all I saw was a Mog :P Way too much empty space in your dri...

Todds - That is a fantastic picture! It is rare to be in the right place and time with a camera. Andy-We really don't know how large their ranges are here. There is plenty of food for them so they may have smaller territories than they do out west. Our place seems to be on a feeding loop. Often we s...

I agree that large predators are an integral part of nature and belong in wild environments. The question is - How far does "nature" extend? As an example - We have had mountain lion problems on our place for the last eight years. Prior to that they were considered absent from Iowa for the...

Farmers receive the most money from the government ( Farmers are not ranchers ). john Good informative post John. I have always had a hard time with the line between farmers and ranchers. Many of my neighbors who are "farmers" also run 80 to 800 cows (on pasture, not feed yards). Most far...

The only problem is that the whole truck can be covered with a layer of ice, it is not always just an issue with the lock. It is very interesting trying to get into a vehicle that is laminated with a half inch of ice.

OK, just checked a 712M for axle ratings. It had exactly the same front and rear axle load ratings as the 712AMB (1500 kg and 2600 kg) but had a much higher GVW (4000 kg vs. 3500 kg). I still suspect there may be some European weight restrictions affecting either road access or licensing requirement...

Thanks for the translation Gunnar.

Still seems odd that the 712AMB has a GVW of 3500 kg while the 712M is 3900 kg. Lighter springs or compliance with some EU maximums? What are the front and rear axle ratings of a 712M?

Translation help

Can anyone help with some translations from the vehicle identification plates? This is a continuation of the requirement of our DMV to issue a new VIN for my Pinzgauer 712AMB. The total GVW seems too light for a 712. Here is the info from the plate by the driver's seat: zulass. vorderachslast kg . ....

Thanks for the pictures Paul, I've been thinking about doing something like that. Bet nobody bangs their car door into your truck in parking lots.

VIN Problem

Well, I tried to register a 1982 712 today down at the county courthouse. I thought it would be an easy process since I already have another 712 that is already titled here. Wrong! It seems that in Iowa any vehicle manufactured after 1981 requires a 17 digit VIN. The 7 digit Pinzgauer serial number ...
