Re: Too hot to start?

i had a hot start problem ... turned out to be a bad/weak coil. replaced it and it's been fine ever since.

I've never heard of breakers popping because of the outside temperature. that doesn't sound right ...

OIL FILLER CAP GASKET.

Was adding oil the other day and noticed there was no gasket on my oil cap. i see SAV has 'em, but I don't really want to spend $10 shipping for a $1.75 part.

is there an interchange cap or gasket?

enquiring minds want to know ...

Re: torque specs for the exhaust manifold nuts

replaced my gaskets yesterday. took longer than I expected, but only because I was fussing over the studs, trying to make 'em all pretty again. with some success, mind you. one gasket was completely gone. the rest were fine.

however.

I did discover one of my flex pipes has a leak/hole in it.

Re: Fiat wheels on a Haflinger

fiats ... another of my interests. the wheels for the spider 2000 and the 124 series all share the 98mm bolt pattern and some wheels did come in a 14 inch size. fiat afficiandos say they all have similar back spacing ... can't say as i've ever tested them all on my X1/9. regardless, fiat wheels are ...

Re: torque specs for the exhaust manifold nuts

i can speak metric, so metric units are fine ...

(checks)

sure enough, there are a couple tables with torque specs. they don't specifically talk about the exhaust manifold nuts, but they do have an "all other nuts" section that should cover it.

thanks

rusty crusty connector

so this last sunday, i swapped in new brushes in the alternator. discovered i had a problem in the molex connector (the one just behind the distributor with six conductors in it). the terminals on the red wire were corroded almost to the point of not even being there anymore. I'm surprised the thing...

i dont mean to be a d$%k ... well ... you're sounding like one. who are you to tell someone else what they should or should not like or want? if he wants a pinz that'll go 80, then let 'em want one. let 'em try and build one. why should you care? he came here asking for our ideas/help on getting wh...

Re: heater/heat exchanger leaking?

If the pipes are breached(leaking) you can make a sleeve with a piece of pipe slightly smaller in diameter to fit inside and weld up the ends  Much cheaper than replacing :D i thought of that. the heater hasn't worked very well over the years I've had it. i've been concerned I'd lose even mor...

heater/heat exchanger leaking?

I need a new muffler. I know. it's bellowing like a wounded buffalo. I'm all over that, but that's not what I'm asking about ... I'm getting exhaust smell in the cab. I'm concerned the heat exchanger is pulling the exhaust fumes in. i can't see how I could actually test to make sure the heat exchang...

techniques for loosening that big giant cooling fan nut

so, my fan belt is pretty loose. I really should adjust it before it leaps off the pulley somewhere. that big nut is mondo tight. I had a 4 foot breaker bar on it and couldn't budge it. I had some trouble holding the pin wrench in place while i was fighting with it. I don't have an impact wrench, no...

speedometer not working

so, the other day, the speedo stopped working. today was my first chance to look at it. the right-angle drive seems fine. even with it bypassed, the speedo still doesn't work. I even drove around the block with the speedo end in clear view so I could watch it. holding gentle pressure on the end and ...

mufflers

busted a weld on my original muffler and i've been digging for an economic replacement. after looking and searching here and elsewhere, it apprears i've found an alternative that hasn't been mentioned. based on the appearance of the IMCO # CM35, i'd bet a Bosal # 278-031 could be made to work. it's ...

Fronts axle seals are a little more time consuming. Plan for an entire morning or afternoon to repair and remember, there are 2 different seal sizes. Best to get a matching seal and spacer and spacer O ring  So, Jim, i'm-a fix this soon ... do you have part numbers? can I orer these parts fro...
