Re: Seeking BN4 Parts!

Is it worth a drive to the country?

I had the same problem last week when I went looking for a pitch fork.

Re: Seeking BN4 Parts!

TSC (Tractor Supply Co) hydraulics dept could likely rebuild it. The ends look good.

Cheers, Clive

PS mention that you need fuel compatible hose.

Good luck

Re: New portal gears for sale?

That's a very clear photo. You could find the ratio by counting the teeth. Center spline specs, gear width, etc. could be measured off the regular gears. Someone here may have specs, spares or a portal open for some reason. As for the price, once you know the tooth count start calling around for cus...

Re: Overdrive parts available soon

The initial plan is for the machinist to offer to make the custom pieces and customers to purchase the commercially available parts independently. As I will be purchasing all of these parts for my unit I will be sharing the sourcing and cost with others. This will keep the cost of shipping down as w...

Re: Overdrive parts available soon

Wow! There certainly is interest. I will me speaking with the machinist today. The original thread TechMOGogy posted (many thanks) outlines the build extremely well. There are commercially available parts that can be collected in advance. However, I would suggest waiting for the machining to be comp...

Overdrive parts available soon

Thanks to bikmakr, who supplied me with his files for making the necessary parts to install a Laycock overdrive (commonly used in Volvo) into a Pinzgauer, a local master machinist (red seal certified) is setting up to provide the parts to anyone interested. He is at the point of making a trial set w...

Re: Fan belt nut seized??

Try a 50/50 mix of acetone and transmission fluid as penetrating oil. It's a not so secret recipe.

A friendly garage with an induction heater may be necessary. If all else fails a small chisel will either drive it off or cut it off. You may want to buy a spare before this.

Good luck.

Re: Cannot change into gears, only with engine off ???

You will never break a clutch free in 1st gear or in low range. The load, effort needed to turn the wheels is too low. With the truck off and the parking brake released select 4th gear, hold the clutch pedal down (engaged) and try starting it. Be certain to have nothing in front of the truck even th...

Re: Has anybody tried the Tear-Aid A or B on the top

I used the vinyl kit to repair a 1" cut in the flap over the rear side 4 years ago. Patched inside and out and it is still holding up perfectly. It is close to a D ring and shows no signs of deforming from the extra tension. As my dear departed Grand-dad would have put it, "A blind man wou...

Re: pinging / knockin

Just another thought, if you are running lean the engine should settle down with a little choke which is a mixture enricher. It doesn't fix the problem but it does let you know if you are on the right track.

Re: pinging / knockin

Running lean causes extra heat build-up. On an older system like this there should be a little carbon build-up on the exit of the tailpipe. Check by wiping it with your finger. No black -lean, Dirty finger-good, black finger -too rich. This is a good test for an engine that is running reasonably. Th...

Re: pinging / knockin

The British call it "pinking" which I think imitates the sound better. Pre-ignition causes the intake valve to bounce closed which causes the noise. I would describe the noise as metallic and similar to rapid hammer taps on steel. Post-ignition or knocking is ignition after TDC. The knocki...

If it's not pulling or eating tires you're good to go! After all there is very little chance of setting a speed record in a Halflinger.
