Which states have people had success registering a 710 Pinz in, and which state have people had problems?
For example, in CA 1975 and older is fine, newer is not allowed.
Others?
Specifically, I'm curious about states in the Pacific Northwest, upper Midwest, and the northeast states like NH.

Re: Engine stumbling backfiring ...
Check the gap between the Pertronix pick-up sensor and the black-plastic-encased magnet on the distributor shaft -- it should be quite close, but not touching. Check your timing. You'll need a standard timing light for this. Since you have civilian wires, it's super easy to use an inductive pick-up ...

Watch for rub points on the hose -- I added a p-clamp in one spot, and a metal sheath where it penetrates the body sheet metal.

Re: Strange thing going on
I would start your debugging by disconnecting the vacuum hose that goes from the engine to the power brake booster. Close it off at the engine.
You may have booster diaphragm leak.

Re: Vapor Lock
Were you running straight gasoline or ethanol blend? I ask because I have two vehicles (one carb and one FI) that do notably worse with heat soak on ethanol blends vs. non-blends. Is it possible the engine was actually flooded, and not lean? I could imagine flooded from the fuel in the bowls expandin...

An option I'm considering is:

What trailers have others used?

Lightweight trailer options for a 710K?
I'm exploring trailer options to allow a 710K to be trailered behind a truck with a towing capacity of 6400lb, so I'm looking for a lightweight trailer. Any recommendations? PS: I started a separate thread on the CG of a 710K to help evaluate if a speculative trailer would allow for proper tongue we...

710K front-to-back CG?
Does anyone know (by documentation or measurement) the front-to-back CG (Center of Gravity) for a 710K? I couldn't find it in the documentation. If someone had front and rear axle scale weights, it's easy to calculate from that. The goal is to evaluate trailer options wrt vehicle position and tongue...

Re: Rotella users: T4 or T6?
I conduct oil analysis with Blackstone for most of my vehicles. It's $35 of value/entertainment. Here's what they came back with most recently: As you might imagine, we haven't seen many samples from these air-cooled 2.5L Steyer-Puch engines over the years, and this is the first one where the interv...

Re: Battery going dead
If you saw variability with moving the connector around, and you've already reported a lot of corrosion on the contacts, honestly, I'd replace that connector. It's a pay-me-now or pay-me-later situation. I'd not consider it urgent (stop driving now), but I'd consider it a risk in the field if you do...

Pertronix failure modes -- high RPM issues?
For a long time at higher RPMs (>3,000) my tach (Sun Super Tach II) sometimes bounces around a lot, but it's super stable at lower RPMs. I've largely dismissed it as a tach issue, but today I noticed a cutting out of engine power on the highway and the bouncing needle was more dramatic so the issue ...

Rotella users: T4 or T6?
I've moved over to the Rotella camp, using T4 15W40. I'm contemplating T6 for the next change, and am wondering what others, who are using Rotella, ended up with and why?
The T6 is more expensive ($23 vs. $16/gal), but cost isn't a factor given TCO. Anyone see a downside with the T6 vs. the T4?

Re: Sticky high idle speed
So....adjusted the timing to be about 2-3mm advance when cold, and no improvement. I don't think it's a mechanical thing because when it idles high after coming to a stop, it'll idle down correctly if pulled down by letting out the clutch a bit and releasing it. It now has the correct Pinz spark plu...
