Re: Dome Ventilator

My 710 MS has indeed such a dome ventilator as well ... it was - as the MS itselve - an Yugo-Special. The idea of removing the dome in less arid zones of the earth is a good one since it is a notorious source of inleakage ... comparable with the tropical roof of the 109 Landrovers ... The removal is...

Re: Engine Trouble

My first look would be, if one cylinder Head-Cap Seal ist broken ... they tend to leak after being sucked a little bit inside ... the motor oil drips on the exaust manifold and its a smokey mess ... not an uncommon Pinziproblem a cheap repair .... many fix the new seal on the head cap with a heat re...

Re: Engine temperature sensor - has anyone added one?

To my interpretation the pressure sensor is in the main oilstream after the oil cooler, but before the oil filter ... otherwise the readings would not make much sense ... since the thermostate opens not before 83°C towards the oil cooler ...

Re: Engine temperature sensor - has anyone added one?

My oil temp sensor is under the oil pressure sensor. There you get a picture of the "outgoing" oil temperature after the oil cooler. Therefor it reacts on both: higher engine oil temperatures as well as bad cooling e.g. due to low RPM At central european conditions equal on highway as on s...

24 v petrol heaters are not available anymore here over in Europe ... there are 24V Diesel from the two german manufacturers Webasto https://www.webasto.com and Eberspächer http://www.eberspaecher.com/en.html I have two russian ones in my cars, since they cost less than 50 percent of the above and a...

@Vince: they will not sell the Pinz ... although they got a brand new Bergwacht-customized VW Amarok http://www.volkswagen-nutzfahrzeuge.de/de/kundenloesungen/kunden-berichten/bergwacht-bayern.html ... the Pinz is the only car that makes the old WWII-road up to the Blaueis .... in this video you can...

Here in Bavaria SAR is called "Bergwacht" ... the Organisations tradition goes back to the 1920ies ... and is financed by public sources (health insurance/goverment). My Pinz is used as a backup for our regular Mercedes (Puch) G: 20151212_160945.jpg K800_20160214_134534.JPG K800_20160608_1...

Re: Time for new front springs..

be careful: often not the springs itselves are the problem but the spring cups ... due to rust they break almost invisibly ... only after removal the problem can be seen ... the Dieselsprings are a lot stiffer and lacking the progressiveness of the 710er ones and here in Europe only used for rally p...

@Pinzcat: as far as i know the SSI does not have an ignition breaker ... @one2many: you are quite right in generally, but the reported symptoms "running worse when warm" suggest to much petrol ... @JohnL: idle speed should be 800-900 rpm ... a cold start @ temperatures lower than 10 °C (50...

Re: Loss of power and backfire: help!

John, have you synchronized the carbs? Have you measured the CO @ idle? What is the rev-speed @ idle? Have you checked the cut down solenoids @ the carbs? (drop in revs, when one is unplugged @ idling ... click, if unplugged, when the engine is not running, but the ignition on) Sounds a bit, if your...

Re: Engine Oil Leak on bottom of cylinder head nearest drive

Don`t tighten the nut ... the cilinderheadcover will break ... it is specified to 15 Nm which is 10.8 lbf ft (which is what you use?) The seals are sucked in quite often, when the cork gets older ... it can be prevented by glueing the seal to the cap by a temperature resistant liquid sealant (we her...

Re: Engine Oil Level Too High

Check the following two possible sources of petrol reaching the oilpansump: no. 1: the diaphragm of the fuel pump has a small tear, which causes a small but steady loss no. 2: one of the level check valves of the carburators does not close properly, the engine runs way to fat and fuel is washed down...

Here in Europe we use those Hardi-Pumps: http://www.hardi-automotive.de/en/products/pumps-1224v/ They are cheap (50-90€) and have profen their durability. There are two things to mention: - the vehicle roll, died motor with still fuel pumped kan be solved with a relais souce from the D+ from the alt...

Hi Unipus, There is a stock-Pinzgauer version, which might meet your desires: the 710 MS, which is a 3 door steeltop version of the M, mainly used as ambulance or by the military police in former Yugoslavia http://pinzforum.kiruna.de/download/file.php?id=2438 or here several Fotos of a MS: http://pi...
