Re: OIL-LEAKS: the pinz-bane

Jules, before the days of happily divorced I had a sheet of plywood under my old 63 Land Rover (LR= oil leaks) to keep the peace. It only work for the truck.

Re: OIL-LEAKS: the pinz-bane

Hello Jules, I wouldn't recommend renewing the seals unless the leak is substantial. Your photos seem to show seepage rather than a leak. Is there oil under the truck? If not, or very little, you may just want to check the level, top up if needed, clean the oil off the truck with something like aero...

Re: seized locker arm

Machinist's secret penetrating concoction is 50% acetone and 50% transmission fluid. It may help.

Good luck.

Re: Fuel Problems

John has posted a great trouble shooting list. I would only add to check the float level in the cab fuel bowl. It could set too low and you are exhausting the fuel in the carb faster than it is being replaced. The manual should have the float level.

Re: Dont jump your jeep

The control arms would have let go if the driver was on the brakes when he landed. The wheels couldn't turn and would twist the suspension like a pretzel. I've seen this on cars with only a pothole and on the brakes to blame. It's likely the Jeep only failed because of a panicking driver on the brak...

VW diesels will eat their camshafts if you don't run full synthetic. Rotella T6 is great! Look for CF or better rating. The owners manual should specify the minimum able grade. T6 is a now at CI if I remember correctly before my morning coffee. As for weight, go with the heaviest possible for your t...

Re: Wheel spacers

Careful! Land Rover Disco 1 and Defender are 5 x 165.1 mm ( Actually 5 x 6.5") They are a carry over from the Series truck days.

Disco 2 is 5 x 120mm and the alloy rims take oddball nuts.

Good luck.

Things daughters try to gloss over

Was out for coffee with some friends this evening when my 20 year old daughter called to say her steering felt funny. Before she got home this popped up on FB. She seemed surprised when she got home and I suggested her belt might have been wet from the car-wash. That's my girl! (and her own truck. N...

Re: Amphibious alternative to the Pinz?

A Land Rover Defender with the side flotation crossed the Baring Strait from Siberia to Alaska a few years back. They were driving from England to Tierra del Fuego.

Re: Amphibious alternative to the Pinz?

How about an Argo 6x6 or 8x8? There are also other similar vehicles in the $10+ market new. You can even put an outboard on the back.

LR3 looks very nicely set up! Hope it serves you well.

Check out the LRII from iCarsoft as a carry along Land Rover specific OBD2 reader/clearer (all sub-menus). I don't travel without mine.

Re: fan pulley came apart at speed on the highway

Now you all have me wondering. I have a NAPA belt as a spare I purchased last summer. I've not had to do anything to the one on my truck yet. I do know that old Series Land Rovers don't like North American belt as the V angle is different in England. The Rover eats a NA belt quickly but it will get ...

2 -5 ton axle stands were my first Pinz related upgrade for my shop. Better safe than sorry, They can fit close enough to the standard jack to remove it safely.

Party Unimog

Someone mentioned huge tires on a Mog a while ago. I found this photo and thought it might be the huge tire winner. This Unimog used to live in Dundas, Ontario. Aside for the enormous tires it had 3 -3 passenger van bench seats in a U in the back. Acceleration was i name only as was braking but it c...
