Spot on Robin ! You really MUST carry out this operation. I think it's laid out in the MOT Manual, just after monosodium glutamate (?) That said, the burble-burble-burble from an exhaustless Haf on idle is pure music!!

Keep up the good work mate.
Time for my pills.

Robin: Yes, it's symmetrical ie. doesn't matter which way in it's inserted. Sadly, there's no number at all on the "original" or the copy. That might of helped. Hopefully, someone else may chime in on this. Good luck.

Cheers,

Robin: I transferred my door locks from my civvi 710M after its terminal dong. They are the Steyr locks. "Should" be the same as yours. I just trundled down to my nearest Timpsons (Kilmarnock) and they had the blanks on the hook. Maybe I was just lucky. Give your branch a try if you haven'...

Mine doesn't require the use of the hand throttle for idling at all. It comes in handy after the river crossing at a certain bothy every month. (You know the one ScottishPinz). After reaching the tarmac, I dry out the brakes with the hand throttle on for a few hundred yards until they "bite&quo...

To piggyback on Robin's thread... my hand throttle works OK when you pull it up..... but it won't stay up ! Turning the knob clockwise should "seize" the assy. but it doesn't. Is there an easy fix lurking ? Got quite a bit of very cool white stuff here at the moment, so won't be mauling ab...

Thanks for the suggestions folks. Nobody seems to stock steering wheel covers large enough for the Pinz. Contacted a specialist restorer who wanted approx. £200/$313 + tax + delivery etc. just to re-coat it. After speaking to some Land Rover Series owners, what they did was to thoroughly de-grease t...

Steering Wheel Gunge Transfer Problem !

The steering wheel has lost a lot of its shiny surface. Below lurks the black plastic (?) material. Although I genally drive with clean(ish) hands, the exposed plastic gets quite cruddy after a while. Not normally a problem, but when it's humid/cold/damp in the cab (11 months out of 12 in Scotland) ...

I just look at the "lay" of the cable. ie. which way the individual strands are twisted together. You simply twist the cable from the back/clevis end in the direction of the lay, thus tightening up the strands. As always, lather the cable and anything it touches, goes round, slides through...

On my 712M the 2 hatches are located as follows:- Measuring from the bed lip above the pintle, the centre of the rearmost hatch is 29 inches from the lip. The "amidships" hatch is 67 1/2 inches from the lip. Both hatches are the same dimensions with same hole spacings. I measure these at 4...

Annealing Copper Rings.

Quite often there is reference to annealing the copper rings/seals on gearbox, hubs etc. Just how much heat do you apply to these rings to "anneal" them ? I'm thinking of putting them on a ring of the electric cooker. A black, solid cast disc ring, not a radiant ring type. Fizzing hot, jus...
