Re: Samlex DC-DC converter operation
The Samlex converters are not known for lasting that long. I had to replace mine pretty quickly after getting my truck, am fixing to install my 3rd converter but to #2 taking a dump on me. Listen to Rmel when he says to stay away from one's with a fan... Lesson learned. One of the things I learned a...

Re: 24V to 12V Converter - Lifespan?
Thanks for the suggestions. I remember looking at the Orion ones before I settled on the Meanwell. Being that my converter powers 12V accessories plus 2 radios, I feel the best way to proceed is getting 2 and using one for the ignition and one for the accessories. This should spread the load and bui...

Re: New member from Montana
Congrats on the new truck. Yes, loads of fun, to work on and to drive. Looks like you have some projects ahead of you, this is a great resource for information. I seem to remember a yellow pinz floating around a few years back, wonder if anyone recognizes this one. Pro-tip, use the search function, ...

Re: 24V to 12V Converter - Lifespan?
Okay, real world experience chiming in. I recently had my meanwell converter take a crap on me while driving. Potentially leaving me stranded (thankfully I had a spare). I had to look for this post to see how long it lasted... looks like 4 years. I run the SSI through the converter, so when it goes,...

Re: Good carburetor article
You can poke around on that Porsche site without joining, never found the article, but found this website. Lots of Zenith information. I am going to be pouring through this, as I am having some carb issues myself.

Re: VDO Electronic Speedo
I am thinking you hit the nail on the head. I was able to get the unit out off of the truck (thank you!) and it appears the black wire (ground) has lost it's insulation right where you indicated the wear spot is. I can imagine this is the root issue. I guess I will play around and see if it is somet...

Re: VDO Electronic Speedo
Okay. Dug a little deeper but had to stop. This is the sending unit, not sure how this puppy is installed or removed? I tried the lower nut, it moves about 1/4 turn before stopping and the textured piece above it does not move, at least not with the force I'm comfortable using. I looked up some trou...

Re: VDO Electronic Speedo
I will double check both issues when I get home, I know the LCD still shows the mileage, so leads me to believe it may be okay?

Re: VDO Electronic Speedo
Man, oh man, reviving this older thread... I am also having this issue with my VDO Speedometer. Same sort of issue, the speed and miles have just stopped working. The unit cycles on in test mode, when you first start the truck but that's all. I have just visually looked at the unit wires, I don't se...

Re: Improve front seat mounting
Look around in the owner build and customization. I know a lot of us have swapped out the stock seats for the smart car ones. Most people just re-use their existing seat frames or buy NOS ones to weld to. Albert (Hotzenplotz) fabricated a pretty slick mount out of aluminum, basic principle is the sa...

Re: New Headlights and Turn Signals
Clean looking truck, I like the red hitch pin.
Nice looking headlights, I have been curious about upgrading my headlights and would love to know where these came from and how they look. I know LED's tend to be bright, so figure they are probably pretty nice.
