E-trac
I did a similar install to Paul's and learned from his clearance problem. Used a 2x4 as a spacer on the bed (712M) and put E-trac on top; then used #14 Home depot self tapping screws (with rubber washer) to drill into uprights. Both sides 25 minutes - use a real drill with a cord.

paint
I bought a gallon of paint + hardener +primer @ NAPA and painted a 712 using a Home Depot HVLP gun ($55). Easy to get paint & fix trail rash in the future. Cost $450 and my time.

clutch lube
I also cleaned mine (no solvent) and packed new lube in as best as I could. Used Brake caliper grease for the temperature. If the part was $35 I'd change it, but for $200 I'll pull the tranny again when (if) the squealing starts.

pinz in canada
Hi xtremexj; I'm a displaced Canadian, with the last 25 yrs in ft Mcmurray AB. Now in Denver with a 712M. I think I can explain the Pinz wrt the cold. The vehicle is a work of Engineering art, and will go places where it is difficult to walk ( easily carrying 500 kgs). But you need to do work to sta...

I'm in Denver and insured w/ Farmers. My agent is Jane Greenburg 303-456-6711. My 712M is a AM general 712 at Farmers - oh well no time to set everyone straight.

Paul, I'm starting to snoop around for the next Pinz project and seats are on the list. What model are you offering and what is the cost?

Thanks, I asked Dennis to get a price and availability. I am planning a trip to Mt Evans in November with the moggers -heat would be nice.

Cab Heat
Hey totaljoint what is the Wabasto model you are using? I called a distributor yesterday and they told me I can have a 24V model or a gasoline model -not both. And the gasoline model was $1000 more and 3weeks delivery compared to the in stock diesel version. (12,000 BTU diesel = $1350) For $1000 I w...

speedo leak
Glad it worked. I had the same problem and was testing before posting.
I had cut a new gasket the same size as the washer from a cork blank. Only did 50 miles, but it worked too.

Pinz tool $$$
Any chance you would post a drawing of the tool (measurements). Looks simple to build for those of us too poor to have genuine Pinz tools.

linkage
Captxmas, I think we are talking about the same thing. My cable was missing -I only had the "T" and needed to make something that would work. I still find it difficult to set the idle properly and will change it to something that pivots better.

oil
I'm using 5W-50 synthetic ... and it drips more than it burns. Based on my usage and other input it seems the Pinz will run on just about anything. Since my days analyzing oil samples in a Lab I have favoured synthetic oils for their remarkably low pour point. At one time I lived where -40C was comm...

hand throttle
I removed the T with the square end and drilled a hole. Insert a section of wire and used Silver solder to make an extension. It works but I think a flexible wire (like a sink plug) would work better. Sometimes the stiff wire gets bent and makes it difficult to set the idle accurately.

I too plan to paint my 712M, but not green. Does anyone foresee a problem using Linex (et al) as exterior paint? It will likely cost $2K or more, but I didn't think a roller/brush would leave it in good enough shape if the Pinz ever needs to be sold. Linex seems durable enough to handle a few trees,...
