I too have Jim's 2.7L + cam and passed the 1000 mile break in just before coming here to Ourey for the 12th RMP Treffen. Very happy with the results - it's not a speedster but has a little more pull and I shift a lot less.
Thanks Jim.
Now I need to research a mgl gauge (???)

Re: EI Hardtop
I also have an EI hard top. Lined it with 1/2" foam from aircraft spruce to reduce cab noise and help with heat in the winter, it works well. Pins into the windshield frame are a must to keep it from vibrating loose.

Re: Coils, ballast resistor, and 4500 rpm module
Is there any way to reduce the number of parts (that can fail) ie: remove 4500 rpm module, ballast resister ? It's been a long long time since I worked on ignition systems and cannot remember the schematic now. My module periodically acts up and somewhere near 4200 rpm the tach moves up to 6000 rpm ...

Re: Multi Pinz owners - The difference between a 710m and a
I have a 712M and cannot speak for the 710 at all. But I love the room in the back for gear and the stability on ice/snow. For several years I drove an FJ 40 landcruiser in the far north ... too many times I end up ass first in the ditch and a couple times on the roof during winter trips. A square w...

Re: Can i run a 12v battery off an invertor?
A 12V battery usually has a 14-15V source to charge it. If your inverter is steady at 12V then you need to wait until the battery is partially failing (<12V) before it will accept a charge from a 12V source. The other concern I would have, is that if you find a way to get more than 12V to your stand...

What about an rv battery disconnect directly on the +ve terminal and a good padlock on the battery box ?

Re: Oil dripping from exhaust manifold stud
Sounds like the previous owner drove the oversized stud through the head into the lifter area. My heads are already reinstalled otherwise i could check to see if that actually possible. The lifter area has oil pumped into it and it returns through the lower tube. Tube seals can leak that is why I as...

Re: Oil dripping from exhaust manifold stud
Is the drip from the stud directly or could it be the oil return line has a bad seal and the oil gets blown onto the manifold?

squirting oil into the spark plug hole before turning it over (without spark) will ensure the rings have lubrication

Re: Pinz Gear Reduction Starters - Interest?
if you stall while playing on steep stuff and decide to push in the clutch petal you'll free wheeling and be in for a ride; maybe backwards. I was instructed to start it up in gear -it works. Not sure how long the starter will last, but it works and I didn't do any 'free falling'. Don't rely on me b...

Re: Pinz Gear Reduction Starters - Interest?
Scott, for off-roading the starter gets used to move the truck in slow assents or stalls during braking on extreme descents. Can this new unit keep up to the abuse?

Re: Engine conversion
I'm 300 miles after Jim's 2.7 conversion including cam ... very nice. Drivability has increased, I have power to pull up small grades easily without losing 5-8 MPH, can usually keep it in 4th or 5th for the entire commute to work. Need to complete the 1000 mile break in period in time for the RMP tr...

Re: Cyl #1 dead?
From experience either carb functioning alone will run the engine and get you out of trouble; so you can certainly rule out a Carb problem. I'd focus on plug, wire or distributor connection to #1 cyl.

Skinny is good except on a beach or in the dunes. I come from the land of swamp & muskeg ... big fat tires just cause problems in soft goo; kinda like walking in rubber boots and then wading into a 2 ft mud hole http://real4x4forums.com/PinzgauerBBS/posting.php?mode=reply&f=13&t=6027#. T...
