Re: Flushing Hydraulics
Be sure to clean out the reservoirs; not only of the old fluid, but often there can be a substantial amount of "sludge" in the bottom. You don't want that getting into the new fluid.

Re: The Portal Hub Humor Thread
A heavyset lady boarded a bus with a duck under her arm. A drunk at the back of the bus yelled out "Hey, where'd you get the pig?" She said "I'll have you know that this is a duck." And he replied "I was talking to the duck!" A termite walked into a bar; said "Wher...

Re: Can't find vaccum leak. Backfiring, missing on accelerat
if you wanted a high QUALITY carburettor repair the last place you'd take them would be to one of the remaining carb repair businesses left in business. There has not been a carburated auto sold in the USA since 1994 (24 years ago) so almost no one today has any significant experience with them. Fo...

Re: 1975 Volvo C303 California Registered and Titled
Well, because of the almost impossibility of getting vehicles like these licensed in California anymore, any that are already here are grandfathered in - this makes them much more valuable (in California only).

Re: Is non matching numbers common on Swiss Pinz's?
Since bodies are not as easily swapped (compared to doors or the internal door panel where the ID plate is located) I would hope/expect that the body pan ID plate number should match the chassis number. You should find the chassis stamp on the chassis casting, hidden by the muffler heat shield plate...
Re: Pinzi SSI
With a new battery installed it started and ran like new, instantly. Is it safe to assume that the battery you replaced was the "lower" battery, with its negative terminal connecting to the battery switch lead and the positive terminal connecting to the other battery? If so, this is a per...

Re: Can't find vaccum leak. Backfiring, missing on accelerat
Testing is easy: at idle, spray around the butterfly shafts with starting fluid; any leaks and the idle will increase noticeably. No change, they are not your problem.things I have not played with: shafts, shaft seals and butterflies. I just don't want to go there..

Be sure to check the "balance hose" that is hidden under the air tin and connects the two intake manifolds together; the hose there gets significant heat at engine shutdown and is never seen unless you remove both the front and rear air tins from around the carbs.

Re: Front half axles
If they are standing up on the wheel studs then turning the splined end of the axle shouldn't allow rotation since the wheel studs are in contact with the ground. No, if the studs of the axle prevent the axle from rotating then turning the driveshaft will allow it to "orbit" around the ax...

Re: Front half axles
Try flexing the steering joint and see if this helps to "unlock" the rotation. The CV steering joint is MASSIVE (especially compared to other 4x4s and that there is additional torque reduction within the hub gears) so it is possible that there is a bit of grit or rust that is binding. When...

Re: Clutch issue
Earlier this spring I had to change the clutch master cylinder; it was erratic. I've now had to change the clutch master on both my trucks, but never had to mess with the slave cylinder. I'm not saying that you don't have other issues, but from my experience the master fails much more often than the...

Re: Why did my Pinz have fuel delivery issues
Interesting trivia: The shop that helped to get the EMS EFI system set up (the one the Jim L. uses) specializes in Subaru engines for sand rails (they can get over 700HP from a twin turbo 6 cyl Subaru boxer engine!), hence the use of Subaru components...

Re: Clutch Master Cylinder
While the bend does move the clutch line closer to being over top of the brake pedal, remember that the pedal moves DOWN, away from the clutch master. And my foot is securely on the pedal, below the bend, and moves away from the clutch line as I press the brake. In other words I don't feel that the ...
