Re: PInzgauer compatible u joints? The story gets WORSE !!

The grease sounds good to me. I just put my truck away for the winter and plan to pull the driveshaft; after hearing all of your issues I thought I would do some preventive maintenance. I plan to grease the joint and give them lots of full range hand wiggling to really work it in well. As one of my ...

Re: How to get troup marking plate painted

Now a days it is cheaper and easier to set the design you want and have a local sign shop make a printer wrap for the plain sign. Just like wrapping a NASCAR. There are many good images. I was thinking of the one below. By the way the Suisse Armee sign are also grammatically wrong. The word order is...

Sounds great! I did it this year and plan to go again. A cakewalk for a Pinz.

Re: 710M rebuild

Your truck is done and home, Dave has ordered a drive shaft and u-js, Josh is likely good to go and I am always ready. Sounds like we need a southern Ontario gathering. Any favorites? Let's start a new thread and get the ball rolling. See who else is interested. Maybe some Hafis too.

Re: PInzgauer compatible u joints? NOT GONNA HAPPEN !!!

If you know the specs you want or have something to work from Mt. Hope isn't too far.

Re: PInzgauer compatible u joints? NOT GONNA HAPPEN !!!

Spoke to my machinist. You could go one size up and have the caps turned down if there is enough metal and the center will still clear or (and I prefer this one) go one size under and have custom turned caps made. With regular greasing you will likely never wear them out. Good luck! Clive PS Karl ha...

Re: Biodiesel in the 2.4TD

I have a friend with 40 years experience as a diesel mechanic. When I asked him about bio-diesel a few years ago his reply was short and to the point. At approximately $1000 for a high pressure pump rebuild, not to mention the cost of injectors, how much do have to use without a problem to save enou...

Re: Engaging the 4WD

Great points about high to low range and revs. That is why I referenced the max speed plate. It is a handy reference wit the truck.

Thanks for explaining the internal mechanism workings.

Re: Engaging the 4WD

The truck has to be moving for 4 wheel drive to engage. I learned this the hard way. I had the embarrassing experience of being pulled off a slippery patch of grass by a Ford F150 of all things with an old piece of jut scouting rope. Rear locker engaged but no 4x4. Wet slick, slimy grass and a laugh...

Re: PInzgauer compatible u joints?

Here is the skf catalogue. Starting at page 475 they list u-joints by specs.

Good luck.

Re: Rubbing strip removal

Lucky bugger! :? It took 2 hrs to get mine off the first time! Then half a day to make new ones out of oak and to tung oil them. Half a day surface rust repair and threaded insert replacement... Now they come off as part of regular maintenance to check the paint underneath and to re-oil the ...

Re: Is a Battery Equalizer recommended dual batt 24v system?

I usually off-road with the local Land Rover club in either my 63 2a diesel or the Pinz. Either way I like to bring up the rear and see where others get stuck, avoid the problem or pull them out. I also carry 2-12v jump starter packs so if I really unbalance something I can make tea, wait for the eq...

Re: Is a Battery Equalizer recommended dual batt 24v system?

I don't need the high loads others are referring to. I have 2 optima blue top batteries (came with my truck), a 24 volt battery tender with the quick connect wired through to the grill for charging and a 6A battery equalizer from a solar power set-up to keep the batteries level. For 3 year I've run ...

Re: Transfer case lever/cable connection

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but likely the rivnut is stuck to the bolt and turning on the sheet metal. You may have to drill it out and replace. Princess Auto sells a kit that I used for replacing the threaded inserts for my side rails.
