Re: Something For the Pinzgauer Enthusiast/Collector

Yes, part of my collection of parts and tools.

Fortunately I've never had to use any of the "serious" tools.

I'm thinking of offering it for sale but it is just such a neat kit.

Re: starter

My preference is the gear readuction starter from Expedition Imports. https://expedition-imports.com/starter-24v-gear-reduction-pinzgauer-pzgrst/ I've had 5 Pinz 710M's and used this starter in 3 of them. Much lighter in weight and much easier to install. They also spin the engine faster for quicker...

Re: Masked Light switch question...

I'm not near my Pinz right now but as I recall you push the center pin (orange arrow) in with a pointed object and while holding it in, you slide the "bar" to the left (blue arrow). The ignition key is supposed to have a suitable point on it but many have worn off.

Re: steering linkage leaking oil or steering fluid

Are you referring to the large chromed ball, item #18 or #19 on the attached diagram? If so, I've found that carefully loosening and removing item #29, the seal retaining ring allows you to give it a good cleaning of accumulated grit, grime and grease. Then carefully re-assemble and tighten the reta...

I've bought from this firm before and he has been very reliable. Shipping may be pricey.

A couple of photos showing stock tray, bracket and hold-down rods. The extra wire leads are for the battery maintainer.

Re: 4wd engagement

It's not a bad idea to flush out the 3 hydraulic lines every couple of years. The fluid may collect moisture and become thicker and jelly-like which will make engagement/disengagement sluggish.

Re: Truck died

Another possible issue to consider with the fuel delivery is that if the fuel line from the tank to the pump is old, dry and cracked, air will leak in as the pump is trying to prime itself. Sometimes just replacing the rubber fuel lines can make a considerable difference. Glad you're back on the road!

Re: Remaining fuel at the R mark?

It seems to vary from truck to truck depending on the condition of the sender, gauge and wiring. When all is working well it is supposed to be about 5 gallons.
