Oil filler pipe cracked

Maybe fixing this will solve some of my oil consumption issues. I found oil pooling on top of the engine.

So now I have to decide if I should use my tig welder (I’m not too bad with it however I’m a bit afraid of blowing through and creating more work for myself as I’m rusty on thin metal) or break into the new mig welder my wife bought me that I’m not supposed to use till Christmas.

Mind you the only experience I have with mig was at the ESAB booth at SEMA Seemed so easy I just had to have one. Set the metal thickness and pull the trigger…

I guess I could break out my old gas rig or is that too old school?

Wow - my wife never got me a mig welder

I'd use the mig welder if your wife doesn't mind. You'll still have to be careful on the thin metal but it should work just fine.

That’s the way I’m leaning, figure I’ll practice on some tin cans or scrap to get comfortable. I just couldn’t believe how easy it is to lay a good bead with the machine that they were demonstrating. I hope I can do as well on a real item as I could on test coupons. I’ve done enough stick and gas over the years to know I shouldn’t make a living at it however I’m not too bad as an amateur.

Gee Jim thanks for the vote of confidence. Seriously thou thanks for the heads up about part availability, I feel confident I can repair it properly however I have been known to muck things up before.

The cracked filler shouldn’t really be much of a problem for me.
:idea: However I do have a 72 Triumph GT6 that would provide more of a challenge, only needs wiring interior paint and body work etc. on a positive note it is mostly rust free. My wife would probably like to see me trade that one off even if it was for another Pinz.

Repair went well even though I did as I did as I was afraid and popped a hole in it.
Probably wasn’t a good first mig project, used the tig to fix my screw up than went back to the mig to finish it up.
All in all it turned out fine, looks like a factory job.
Lesson learned about mig gun, treat it like a firearm, keep that finger away from the trigger until its pointed at what you want to weld…
