Exhaust Pipe Flex

Post by CaptainRon »

Got one of these stainless steel exhaust pipe flex kits from SAV. Just wondering if anyone else had this rig and if you painted it? It looks great now lol, just wondering how long it will look good in its original form or maybe I should put some high temp paint on there before I install it. FYI, getting some of those bolts off on the headers made me question my will to live..... Many thanks.....Ron

Should be Stainless Steel -- no paint necessary.
At least mine are..

Thank you, I have my truck broke into a 100 pieces right now. It's in good shape with minimal rust, but I'm mitigating what I find. I just replaces the two side panels in the cargo area through SAV surplus. I noticed there is some really thin rubber lining between the panels. Any info on that or sources for replacement?........

Thanks again......

I used butyl rubber sealant tape for the joint.

Ok, thanks Paul. It seems thinner than 1/8 of an inch thick, but I guess it's just been compressed for so long.

SAV used to sell the body sealant tape and I recall it was closer to 1/16" thick but was firmer and less compressible.

Butyl rubber is the stuff I see used most in automotive when you need to seal two pieces of body panel together, but would like to be able to separate them. It's all over my Toyota trucks for access panels and for sealing the plastic under door upholstery.

Thankyou Chicken Pinz......I did find some stuff. It's a tad thicker than the original but should work.
