Hello. My cold air lever on the air cleaner intake horn assy doesn't have a tab to hold it closed. Would someone who would not mind taking a picture or two to show me how it is supposed to look post them, please? I will get it fabricated, I just want it to look original. Thanks. Brian

It is not supposed to be held closed, the only option is to hold it open. In cold climates, at idle it has enough weight to keep it closed and therefore draws "warm" air from the heat exchanger to help prevent carb icing. As the throttle is opened and more air flows, the airflow fights the weight and allows fresh cold air into the filter box so you do not have to do anything.

In warm climates you can latch it open so to always get "cold" air into the filter box at all times.

Resurrecting an old thread I know. Since we rebuilt our 710M carbs last spring the Pinz has been running clean, smooth and strong, whether on the highway, long dirt roads, mountain grades or crawling. We'd probably driven it about 600 miles. Elevations from 1500 to 9300 ft. And, getting about 15 mpg!

Two weeks ago my Brother brought the Pinz from our southern Utah family home to my home in Mesquite NV, about a 150 mile trip. It was 28F when he left. When he was climbing a grade it started to miss a little, and then when he got into St. George in-town traffic about two hours into the trip it lost power again and just didn't want to run.

He noticed that the cold air lever was jammed in the winter position against the oil filler tube. Don't know how that happened since we knew to put it up in the summer position in April before we put the air cleaner back on. So he disconnected the warm air hose from of the air intake and it ran perfectly the rest of the way, including over a mountain pass. Temperatures were probably in the 50's - 70's most of the trip except at the beginning. Elevations from 1500 to 5600 ft.

We've rotated the air cleaner up a little to ensure that the oil filler tube doesn't jam against the air intake if it's down in the winter position, put the lever in the summer position, and re-connected the warm air hose. Haven't driven it since to know whether we're OK yet. I'm leery of taking it without my Rubicon following along and my wife's out of town.

Logic says with the lever jammed in the winter position the Pinz wasn't getting enough air, and what it got was warmer than normal. Maybe an effect similar to a vapor lock except not enough air rather than not enough fuel.

Anyone had a similar experience with the cold air lever stuck in the winter position? Or thoughts about what happened?
