Ive got the engine out of my 710, cleaning it up and installing Jim Laguardia's cam. I've taken most everything apart at this point just to give it a thorough cleaning, even though it doesnt need a rebuild. The cylinder fins have some surface rust....does anyone have any advice on cleaning/rust prevention? I'm tempted to soda blast the exterior and give them a dusting of paint, but interested if there are other opinions out there.
Thanks in advance,
Mike

Re: 710 Cylinder fin rust
Pretty sure they shouldn't be painted because of the effect on cooling.
Edit- I just found this... Depending on who believe, the VW guys will use black primer.

Thanks for the reply, yeah i saw that....and was mostly convinced. It doesnt get that hot in my neck of the woods though, so my only experience has been that the Pinz seems to run cool. I'd hate to veer too far away from the tested standards, however.
