So I have been driving my Pinz a bit lately, as I usually do. I decided to pop the engine cover and look everything over. I found something weird. I found this weird black stuff that had dripped on the bottom of the fuel pump. It looked like melted plastic but it was definitely a sludge. In addition, I found a busted screw. The weird sludge seems to be coming from the diaphragm on the fuel pump, but I am not certain. At all. Thoughts?

I would clean area first with brake clean to see where fresh leak is from. looks like fuel dissolving dirt around leak.

the bolt looks like a broken end from the cable keeper for the choke (starter) cable
Re: Weird fuel pump issue?
That's exactly what I thought, but both are in place. In fact, I just got the choke working again haha4x4Pinz wrote:the bolt looks like a broken end from the cable keeper for the choke (starter) cable
The fuel appears to be weeping from the right side of the pump from the big nut. Maybe a replacement is in order. The VW pumps are exceptionally cheap.

could have been a previous break that has finally found its way to the surface.
