Hey all,
Looks like I may have to embark on a ring job. Never done one before.
I used to do old air-cooled VW stuff before, but a whole ring, piston, cylinder set for those were only a couple hundred bucks. I think I saw that for a 710k for $1400....
I'm noticing that my oil gets dark really fast- less than 1000 miles after an oil change and its pretty dark. So Blow-By sounds logical.
I don't have the full service manual, so any sage advice would be welcome. is it ok to drive in the meantime? (I'm in the northeast US and its winter now- don't ant to do it until the weather warms up)

It is normal for oil to change color soon after changing it in a Pinz, air-cooled engines have looser tolerances. Do a compression check and a leak-down test before tearing into the engine. You may discover all is OK inside.
