Acidic smell

Post by Vladimir »

Hi
Have some acidic smell In the cabin when starting up the engine and coming up while driving occasionally, changed the batteries that were quite old thinking they would expel some sulphuric fumes but still having the same issue right after.
Could it be the carburators, poor combustion ? Running fine no issue neither smoke from exhaust altough backfire in steep road descents.

Thank you

Well if you have that smell of a bad egg salad sandwich that's not likely
the carb or exhaust.

Double check the voltage on the top battery, should be less than 30V.
If your regulator is bad it's possible you may be overcharging resulting
in boiling off sulfur dioxide. You can also feel the battery case they
should not be running hot.

Yes even with new batteries. If the alternator is bad outputting say 40v those new batteries will boil just as easily. So testing the charging circuit will at least eliminate that possibility.
