Valve Adjustment After Pinz SSI
Valve Adjustment After Pinz SSI
Getting ready to do a full tune-up and was wondering how you guys find TDC after you have the SSI installed. I always used the distributor head before I added the SSI. Can I use the LED light on the module? Suggestions appreciated. - Buzz

Yes, the LED would work. I got lazy and just cranked by hand until
the valve rockers were loose

Re: Valve Adjustment After Pinz SSI
I take off all cylinder head covers and crank the engine by hand.
when cylinder 1 closes exhaust and opens intake valve cylinder 4 is in ignition position with both valves closed. cyl 4 can be adjusted now.
one turn of the crankshaft later cyl 1 is in ignition and you can adjust cyl 4.
the same applies to cyl 2 and 3
your ignition method is irrelevant for that method, you can adjust diesel engines with the same method.
additionally there is a mark on the wheel for the v-belt indicating top position on cylinder one

Re: Valve Adjustment After Pinz SSI
Pretty much my approach as well. Though I also add a mark at 180
from TDC to rotate in #2 in position after setting #1. Then another
180 to rotate in #4, finally 180 more for #3.
It was easier to do this with the distributor cap off to see when the
rotor would be on #1 at TDC.
With the Pinz SSI that's not as obvious unless you do this with IGN
on and observe the LED go on indicating #1 is in position. Probably
not a bad idea to do just that to unambiguously identify #1 (versus #4
when at TDC) while also checking timing.
