carb accelerator linkage rod issue

It appears someone creatively substituted a stock linkage for an "aftermarket" on my forward carb. Basically when the rear is shortened to the max threads, the front just barely has enough meat to stay in the plastic ball mount ends. The front is also regular thread on both ends. Vibrations have unscrewed the linkage at inopportune times.
What's the proper length of the two rods? What is the diameter? Is the thread the standard metric 6 thread?
I'm looking at cutting the "aftermarket" rod in two and lengthening by an inch. Its easier than locating the necessary tools to thread the ends of a new rod and cheaper than a replacement. Any foreseeable issues?
