carb accelerator linkage rod issue

Post by audiocontr »

It appears someone creatively substituted a stock linkage for an "aftermarket" on my forward carb. Basically when the rear is shortened to the max threads, the front just barely has enough meat to stay in the plastic ball mount ends. The front is also regular thread on both ends. Vibrations have unscrewed the linkage at inopportune times.

What's the proper length of the two rods? What is the diameter? Is the thread the standard metric 6 thread?

I'm looking at cutting the "aftermarket" rod in two and lengthening by an inch. Its easier than locating the necessary tools to thread the ends of a new rod and cheaper than a replacement. Any foreseeable issues?

rod length

I would look at getting a length of mm all-thread and using nuts to secure the plastic ends at the correct position. I have used this stuff successfully for several applications.

...or just get some correct diameter steel rod and die cut a thread on the ends. (you can buy cheap tap and die kits at most hardwares)

Here are the rod length's
1-2 carb rod(top position on bellcrank) 5x175mm
3-4 carb rod(bottom position on bellcrank) 5x160mm
Main control rod from pedal 5x590mm
Please post a close up picture of your carbs and linkage for best advice.
