Question on balancing carbs and rebuild

Post by audiocontr »

I finally picked up a carb flow gauge and found that with the front carb idle screw out all the way, i have to turn in the back quite a bit to match the airflow. The idle is WAY too high when they match. This tells me the front butterflies are worn correct? It could also be the shaft?

How difficult is the rebuild and should i do both? Would anyone entertain a swap of freshly rebuilt carbs for mine, plus cash?

Maybe the accel pump linkage is holding it open, or the linkage rod to the carb is adjusted too short, just a thought.

While the engine is running, shoot some starting fluid on the outside of the carb where the shaft comes out each end. if the idle jumps up, then your shaft is worn and you're getting a leak through there. I rebuilt the carbs a while ago and posted some pictures and goatwerks has a great set of pictures too. It isn't too difficult just have a nice clean workbench, take your time, and some digital pictures for a reference.

thanks for the tips.

Linkage rods were disconnected when setting the idle screw.

Will try the starter fluid.
