Muffler repair

Post by Jerbearyukon »

Had a big backfire - I found out the airfilter was plugged and it was making the oil suck into the carbs - plus it was running rich then.

I started it up and BANG!!!

Well I opened up the muffler a bit..hmmm just wondring if i took it off if it could be welded.

Seems to be fairly heavy metal on the original - otherwise I will just buy a new one from EI

If the steel hasn't rusted too much and become too thin, it can be welded. I'd give it a try since a new one is about $540 - ouch!

fixed here - good as old

So we removed her - cut the end out of her - cut a 9.5" - 3/16 plate and wired fed her in - the outer shell was a bit thin so I got some of the exhaust compound and lathered her on and tined it and a bit of hay wire and she good to go..for awhile anyway.

Looks like one of our farm equipment repairs

I'll bet it holds up for quite a while. Nice repair!

muffler

Well the haywire is there until the patch dries. It dries hard as nails, but I will just leave the wire there until it falls off probably.

I think I will probably order the part that changes the two exhaust ports to one port and then put a different muffler on then.
