Use caution when changing belts

Post by pinzinator »

When you change the belt on a Pinzgauer or a Haflinger, be sure to get the big shaft nut tightened correctly. Use the proper tool to hold the fan stationary while tightening, but don't over-tighten.
I did not tighten the nut correctly on my Haflinger, only to see the nut and shims come flying off shortly after starting the engine. These parts almost hit a good friend of mine who was assisting, and that would have ruined the day.
In the future I will tighten correctly, and then rev the engine up a few times with the cover in place in case parts separate, confining them to the engine compartment. You can learn from my mistake.
