Ok, so I buggered up a broken stud, took it to an local muffler shop who got the stud out but buggered it up even more. the stud they assured me was in there just fine is now road debris somewhere and I am intent on fixing this myself. I have a Timesert kit but need to drill out the old hole and thread it. Any advice on how to do this so as to not make it even worse?? it is the #3 cylinder.

I had the same thing happen. I removed the cylinder from the engine, then applied penetrating oil, heated the cylinder with mapp gas around the boogered stud and soaked with penetrating oil again. Before it had a chance to cool I took an eze out bit and turned it til the remaining stud unscrewed. Then I drilled and tapped the hole for a larger bolt. I believe it was a 3/8 dia. bolt that I used as a replacement.
