Supporting engine during gearbox removal

Post by spandit »

I have read that to support the engine when taking the gearbox off, you can just use a normal jack with a piece of wood under the oilpan/sump. This isn't a problem for me, I have a piece of wood and a jack.

However, I am not lucky enough to have a "pimp my ride" style workshop, so have to work on the Pinz outside, on the concrete drive. The problem is that the Pinz normally lives on the front lawn and moving it onto the drive blocks the garage and makes parking difficult.

Is there another way of supporting the engine from above, perhaps with a piece of wood across the front so I could manually roll the beast back onto the grass if required?

I always felt it was worth the investment in a heavy sheet of plywood to work on if I did not have a smooth surface to work from.
