Cylinder Head

Post by Boelt63A »

So the exhaust shop really buggered up the Cylinder head getting a snapped stud out. I had a time sert in there for a while. But it seems that there wasn't enough metal for it to bite into. Now I am left with a huge hole were a stud should be and have decided to have it welded up and re tapped.

Question is, what is it made of?????

Every machine shop I have contacted has asked me the same thing. I have no idea!!

Any thoughts? Anyone have this done before??

Cast Aluminum. It is best to TIG weld for best results, but can be done with MIG. After filling and replaneing the mating surface, fit the exhaust pipe with centering ring , mark and drill the new stud bore and tap to 8x1.25 thread pitch.
