What's the threaded portion on the fan for?

Post by spandit »

The nose of my engine fan has a 1 5/16"-16UN thread on it (I think that's the size) but the normal fan nut doesn't have an internal thread that meshes with this (rather it has an M14x1.5 thread that attaches to the alternator spindle). What is this threaded bit for, anyone know?

It's for the special tool that removes the fan from the alternator, without the use of the other special tool, aka - Hammer. Yes you can remove the fan without one but I still have one because it works without effort and you don't run the risk of damaging parts.

Perfect answer - thanks!

Expensive little tool though but the replacement fans aren't cheap
