winter oil again

Post by Jerbearyukon »

So we are back to feeeeeeeeeeeeeezing cold here in the Yukon.

I went back to straight 30 weight for the summer...but it is WAY TOO thick for winter. The poor ol girl is having a heck of a time.

20 50 was recommended years ago (Castrol GTX - I think).

85-90 for gear oil too.....I have to put the tranny in neutral and the gear shift in 2nd gear when I warm her up just to get her to move properly.

Any suggestions......Synthetics are not the answer right...not unless you rebuild.

Jer , I ran synthetic 5W-50 last year and didn't have any engine grief. The rest of the gear boxes were slow to warm though.
