My headers and heat-exchanger are Jet-hot ceramic coated.
So far no issues. Cooler under the doghouse in the summer,
and warmer in the cab in the winter.

If the heat-exchanger runs so hot the elements melt, might
be running too rich or a leaky exhaust valve dumping computable
gases in the exhaust.

Yes, the PO had neglected the Pinz and the carbs were in very poor shape and were running very rich so there was downstream combustion. Rebuilt carbs and new gaskets, etc. solved it.

I did a little write-up of my installation. I ceramic coated mine and it's working great so far. Not sure how regular powder coat would hold up.
