My starter gear fell off , punched a hole through my bell housing and is lodged against the gear ring on the flywheel.
Is it possible to remove the bell housing without completely removing the engine ? And how hard are gear rings to replace ?
I had to leave the truck in a friends barn and so it's not right here for me to look at.

Ouch!
Just follow the directions for removing the transmission; you can leave the engine in place but you will have to support the rear of the oilpan with a jack. The bellhousing will come off with the tranny and you can remove it at that time.

Yep, support engine, pull tranny, starter and timing gear cover. You then have access to flywheel which can be removed and the ring taken off and replaced. Had to fix an oil leak in the timing gear cover not too long ago so replaced the ring gear at that time as well.
what it looks like with flywheel removed and engine in place.
