It appears that I have two carbs that came from different trucks =) but I expect things like that this late in the game.
One has a brass shaft, one has a shiny steel shaft, both have some vertical play so i expect both need a rebuild. Too be absolutely clear, any vertical movement of the butterfly shaft, even less than a mm, is evident of wear and should be remedied correct?
From my understanding, the brass one can be repaired by inserting a steel shaft and machining to accept an o-ring. The metal one needs even further attention.
So my question is, what, if anything, can i do locally or is it better to send the basis to Jim?

Re: Rebuilding carbs - mixed butterfly shafts
Not necessarily from 2 different trucks - just that one possibly needed the shaft replaced and the other didn't. I have a set of carbs that originally were visually the same but after proper rebuilding by Jim L. they don't look identical but sure do operate very well together. It all depends on your particular skills but I would send them off to Jim.
