I've read a lot on here about other approaches as well, some including sealing the vents.

Has anyone developed a system that works well, particularly in the rain?

I can't imagine the military training manual cautioning against driving in the rain...

The civic adapter plate covers the vent holes.

trust but verify.

Yes, my adapater does cover the vent holes!

I guess that means the only way for moisture to get into the dizzy is between the cap and housing. (Barring a cracked cap, of course.) Am I missing something?

My dizzy has a seal (of sorts) but it looks pretty old and dry. Looks like a good opportunity for RTV or some other sealer here. Thoughts?

Updating for posterity:

I bit the bullet and purchased the solid state ignition for my truck. Installation was easy and it runs great, even in the rain.

During the "take everything apart" phase of the project, I found a couple things for others to look for if they are experiencing water infiltration issues on a Pertronix conversion.

1. The boot over the wires going into the distributor was dry and loose. I'm fairly certain this was the source of the water getting in.

2. The vaccum line leading out of the dizzy was plugged. This is why the water couldn't get out. Earlier, I had pulled the vacuum line itself, and it was clear. My plug was in the base of the dizzy, something I couldn't have checked without removing the dizzy.

so lesson learned, but I'm happy with the new ignition.

Went through deep water and have cleaned and adjusted brakes. Other electronics were made inoperable. Have to open and inspect the dizzy as it may have moisture in it and the engine is running poorly. Thanks for your posts.

The line for the dizzy should appear plugged. It Has a small ball which limits vacuum.

But mine was "can't suck any air at all through it" plugged, and the plug was at the metal inlet to the dizzy housing. Good mention though about the flow restrictor.

I fitted MegaJolt solid state ignition to mine - worked amazingly well until I sucked mud into the carbs and broke them trying to fix the problem but I'd recommend MJLJ
