You may want to pull the cam and make sure the pressed in bore end plugs are not loose or missing.
It would result in lack of oil volume to the piston skirts.

Another thought as you mentioned the 2.7 kit -

You are probably correct that the pistons and cylinders were match fitted (as an individual piston/cylinder pair), but that doesn't prevent the mechanic from getting pistons and cylinders swapped around during ring fitting, con rod installation, etc. It would only take a couple of thousandths of an inch to give problems.

I'm not getting the relationship between the cam button/plugs and the pistons. Can you expound a little?

That's great info! Thanks guys for all your input; digging out Jim's write-up & the points Jim is making :)

I'll keep you posted on progress and discovery when I talk with the machine shop people!
