Steering Box Drain

Post by SAM. C. »

Greetings Gents

Is there a drain plug for the steering box oil?

I cant seem to see one. All I can see is the little square filler on the top.

Thanks

Mine drips out of the seal at the bottom... don't think there is a proper drain plug, though. There are 2 bits you have to fill up - one of mine has the square plug, the other one just has a plastic cap

I changed my fluids about 4 months ago. I sucked it out of my stearing box with a brake vacuum pump.

Thanks Guys

I thought there wasnt a specific drain.

Spandit do you mean the little red plastic cap above the square drive?

Is that a filler for a sepearate reservoir? I didnt realise there were 2.

I quote from the Handbook: "FILLING UP OIL IN THE STEERING BOX"

" Remove plastic plug (fig.123/1) and top up with gear oil SAE 80
until oil flows out from the opening. After removing the screw
(fig. 123/2) top up this bore too until oil flows out of the
opening."

An accompanying picture shows 123/1 is the red plastic cap. 123/2 is the square headed filler screw. It would appear there are two separate chambers within (?). Can't see any mention of a drain at all.

Hope this helps.

Had one out for a rebuild a while back and there are no drains.
As cronapress said, there are 2 separate chambers that need to be filled.
