Front axle dismounting

Post by Buzz »

I need to dismount my front axle to deal with a speedometer issue. The cable is not broken and is not turning when I drive. Unfortunately my manual is missing page 3 from the section on dismounting the axel. Can anyone send me a link or a copy of that page? I would appreciate it. - Buzz

why would you need to take the front axle apart to work on the speedo. the speedo gear is located in the front witches hat. Take off the front nose and you can see everything you would need. I would how ever check to make sure the housing itself (which is accessible without any major disassembly) Might have to jack up truck and support so you can verify it is turning.

Still wish I had a digital copy of the parts manual in English...

Your also going to have to take off steering linkage and front bumper support if I remember correctly. I did it when I was having trouble with my speedo, you should make sure it's screwed in all the way before u start taking stuff appart, it turned out on mine that all it had was that the cable was not going deep enough to catch the gear. Took cable out and seated it right at it hasn't failed again

Thanks all. I have a winch attached to the front bumper so even pulling that will be a big chunk of time. I will look again before digging too deep.
