Shift Assembly Replacement

Post by DeStoriesair »

I have a new shift assembly that I am installing in the 710 and I am having trouble removing the large pin that mates the shift assembly to the tube that goes aft. I have removed the roll pin so I think right now that it is just a tight fit but wanted to get other advice. I have used a long rod to reach the pin and smacked it a couple times with the sledge and have not gotten any movement. Also added some heat and that has not helped. Any advice?

i'd be nervous hitting it with a sledge, could you make/modify or buy some kind of bearing puller combined with a little heat and some luck it could work

I've never had to take the shift assembly apart myself (yet) to confirm this,
but the assembly diagram section "7-14", shows a retention pin #2, holding
the shift pin #3. If that is not removed that would certainly stymie the
situation.

If removed and the shift pin is still stuck, perhaps disassembly at the
floor board inside the cab might allow you to drop that joint down lower
under the truck for better access with a puller as Lewis suggested.
