Maybe I should post this in the 716 section...

I have a high speed gear box on my 712 that is leaking enough to leave a 4" stain on the ground after a couple of days. I've always made sure I had enough fluid in the box to not have an issue.

I plan on swapping it into my new 712 and while i have it out, i figured i would try to repair the leak. My guess is that its coming out at the shift linkage and dripping down.

How much of a challenge is it to replace seals on the gear box? Will I require any special tools?

While I have your attention, will I need any special tools to remove and swap gear boxes? Or is it as simple as disconnect the drive shaft, disconnect the shift linkage, support the box, remove mounting bolts and bolts at the bell, slide back and drop?

They're basically the same tranny, internal gears and mechanisms are different ( not going into it further ).

Before pulling the trans, make sure the rear output bearing is good....one reason the seal fails ( if that's the one you're refering to).

I personally think it's better to swap the t cases for higher gearing. I never liked the TD tranny in my 712, and a 710 could only be worse (especially in low range, offroad).
