Leaking front gearbox seal

Post by spandit »

There is a load of oil around the front of the gearbox, where the steering assembly pivots. Although it's probably doing wonders for the steering lubrication, I trust it's not designed like that - is this an easy fix?

I'll take that as a "no"...

I've never really had that much of the front end apart. Can you detect where the fluid is coming from? From memory, the speedo sender is near there, and I believe it can leak from that. Jerbearyukon recently had issues on his speedo drive, leaking, IIRC.

Front drive shaft is easy to remove how ever it seems like most common leak is from the speedo. To take the front drive shaft first remove the steering linkage than nose cone brake lines and springs. Front springs are the hardest to remove.
